UFCW Looking To Organize Pot Shop Workers: Dave Jamieson of the Huffington Post reports that the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) is attempting to gain a foothold in the medical marijuana industry. To that effect, the union recently accused Wellness Connection of Maine of committing unfair labor practice charges in response to pro-union employees voicing their opinions. These allegations include the issuance of unlawful discipline, as well as surveillance and interrogation of pro-union employees. The National Labor Relations Board has begun its investigation into the charges.
IL School Teachers Closer To Striking: OfProgress.com reports that both the Bellivill, IL teachers and administrative officials are set to issue their most recent "best offers" to the Illinois Education Relations Board today after failing to reach a collective bargaining agreement in negotiations. Follow-up mediation sessions are set for the second week in March. Talks have been taking place since July with little movement from either side.
